Born in 1963 in Des Moines, Iowa, David Kinkade was deeply influenced by the rolling
hills and expressive forms in the landscapes of his home state. He became interested
in art at an early age and experimented with many techniques, mediums and styles
during his youth. Eventually he has come to focus on abstract pieces, expressing
emotion and idea through shape and color.
In 1987 he graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
After college, he traveled throughout the United States and Mexico, learning from the
many styles of art he came across.
He finally settled in New York City in 1990. He continues to live there, constantly
innovating his art, incorporating aspects of many cultures and ideas present in the city.
His work communicates the vibrancy and poetry Kinkade experiences in his life; he
shares his vision through vivid color and expressive form.
