Steve Walters
“Life is perhaps the sentient beings more tumultuous obstacle, yet art remains at the apex of achievement. I need only inspiration to enjoy true peace. Leave me to my will and all that remains, remains.”
Steve Walters
Born to a Clay County, Nebraska farm family in 1948, Steve Walters recieved his passion for gardening and nature which is reflected in his art from his childhood memories and experiences. At a young age, he and his family moved to California where they continued their small farming business growing flowers to be sold in flower markets. In his youth, Walters loved to paint bright objects and floral displays on canvas. After High School, his love for nature and the field of Horticulture drove him to go work a company called Holmes & Narver. At Holmes & Narver, Walters traveled to Antarctica to study wildlife and fossils. It was during this period of his life when he developed an even greater passion for nature and nature’s landscapes which is apparent in his art.
After his work in the field, Walters returned to the United States and began to pursue his passion for art and painting. In the 1980’s, he studied with the renowned Spanish artist, Sebastian Capella. Walters painted with Cappella in his studio for one and a half years, using predominately oil, painting romantic landscapes. After studying with Capella, Walter’s moved on to study with many other notable artists such as: Daryll Millard, Robert Hagan, Scott Christiansen, Ray Roberts and Dan Gerhartz. His experience with these artists allowed Steve to experiment with many types of art and gave him a broad spectrum of taste. His studying allowed Walters to define his own style and morph from a pupil of nature to an artist with true developed talent.
Walters now resides in the small quaint town of Eagle in Southwestern Idaho with his wife Catherine, a professional ski instructor from Aspen, CO. In Eagle he enjoys the rugged western life of fly-fishing and plein-air painting.
